Chapter 5: Anna Collins stepped softly across the polished dining room beneath the warm….
Chapter 5

Alexander didn’t react immediately. He stood perfectly still between the maid and his fiancée, absorbing the crushing weight of his daughter’s terrified confession. The cinematic light caught the fine, artistic tattoos on his neck as he slowly, deliberately turned his head away from Emily.
His cold, penetrating gaze shifted from his daughter and locked directly onto Meredith.
The polished, controlling public smile Meredith had worn all evening completely vanished. Her face drained of all color, her fair skin turning a ghastly, translucent white beneath her expensive makeup. Her breath caught audibly in her throat. She realized, in that singular, agonizing moment, the magnitude of what the child had just revealed to a room full of heavily armed men who worshipped her father.
She had used Alexander’s reputation as a weapon of terror against his own child.
The guests remained absolutely silent. No one touched their wine. No one dared to clear their throat. They sat frozen, watching the apex predator stare down the woman who had just signed her own death warrant.
Alexander stared at her for a long, agonizing stretch of time. The silence stretched until it felt physically painful, a heavy pressure building against the eardrums of everyone in the room. He let the terror fully penetrate her mind before he finally spoke.
“You used my name to torture my child,” Alexander stated. It was a simple, factual statement, delivered in a low, even tone that lacked any trace of the explosive shouting one might expect. The absolute lack of emotion made the words infinitely more terrifying.
“Alexander, please,” Meredith choked out, her voice barely a frantic whisper. She gripped the edges of the mahogany table, her knuckles turning bone-white. “She is a child. She is confused. She’s exaggerating. I simply told her she needed discipline.”
“You told a three-year-old girl that her father is a monster who enjoys watching her bleed,” Alexander corrected smoothly. He didn’t raise his voice. He took a single, slow step toward Meredith, closing the physical distance.
Meredith pressed her back hard against her chair, her eyes wide with unadulterated panic. “I didn’t mean it like that! I was trying to prepare her for the reality of your world! She needs to be tough! If she is going to be my stepdaughter, she cannot be weak!”
“She will never be your stepdaughter,” Alexander said quietly.
Meredith gasped, tears of desperation finally springing to her eyes. She looked frantically down the long banquet table, searching for an ally among the capos and politicians. “Ethan! Say something! Tell him!”
Ethan, a high-ranking lieutenant seated halfway down the table, kept his eyes firmly fixed on his untouched dessert plate. He didn’t move a muscle. No one was going to intervene.
“You wanted to teach her about my world, Meredith?” Alexander asked, resting his tattooed hands gently on the back of Meredith’s chair. He leaned down slightly, his mouth inches from her ear. “Allow me to give you your first real lesson in how my world operates.”
Alexander stood up straight and looked over the heads of his guests, his dark eyes locking onto his head of security standing near the double doors.
“Marcus,” Alexander commanded softly.
The massive, suited man stepped forward instantly. “Yes, Boss.”
“Escort Ms. Blake to the front gates,” Alexander ordered, his tone chillingly calm. “She is leaving.”
“Alexander, no! We are getting married!” Meredith shrieked, her facade completely shattering. She lunged forward, trying to grab his arm.
