An ICE officer is being praised after jumping into a Florida swimming pool to rescue a 6-year-old child who was found unconscious in the water.
The dramatic rescue happened at a community pool in Pasco County, Florida. Gregory Simmonds, an officer with ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations office in Tampa, noticed the child floating in the pool and immediately jumped in fully clothed.
Surveillance footage reportedly showed Simmonds moving quickly through the water, reaching the child and pulling them to the pool’s edge. After bringing the child out of the water, he began performing CPR as bystanders gathered nearby.
Officials said the child regained consciousness after Simmonds delivered life-saving aid. The child is expected to make a full recovery.
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office praised Simmonds for his quick thinking and courage, saying his actions directly helped save the child’s life. Federal officials also commended him for stepping in during a critical emergency.
