Andy Rowell’s One-Word “Tequila” Karaoke Act Becomes a Viral America’s Got Talent Moment

Andy Rowell proved on America’s Got Talent that a performance does not always need big vocals, dramatic dancing, or dangerous stunts to become unforgettable. Sometimes, one word is enough.

During his Season 14 audition, Rowell walked onto the stage as a karaoke performer and chose “Tequila,” the classic song by The Champs. The song is famous for its long instrumental sections and one iconic lyric, making it an unusual choice for a talent show audition.

The Talent Recap upload of the performance was published on June 18, 2019, under the title “TEQUILA! Karaoke Singer Has Everyone Singing Along INCLUDING Simon Cowell!” The video shows Rowell using deadpan humor, silence, and perfect timing to turn the simple song into a full comedy act.

Instead of trying to impress the judges with a powerful singing voice, Rowell stood calmly on stage and waited for the exact moments to say “Tequila.” His serious expression made the performance even funnier, and the audience quickly joined in with laughter, cheers, and applause.

The act worked because it was unexpected. Viewers first saw what looked like a normal karaoke audition, but it quickly became a comedy routine built around timing and confidence. Rowell’s performance showed that entertainment can come from simplicity when the idea is clear and the delivery is strong.

According to America’s Got Talent Wiki, Andy Rowell’s audition appeared in Episode 1404 of Season 14. The judges — Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Gabrielle Union, and Julianne Hough — all voted “yes,” sending him through to the Judge Cuts round.

The performance also gained attention because it made the judges and audience participate naturally. Time described Rowell as a comedian and karaoke enthusiast who used The Champs’ “Tequila” to create a crowd-pleasing moment, with all judges voting to move him forward.

Andy Rowell’s audition remains memorable because it was funny, simple, and easy to share. It did not rely on complicated production or emotional storytelling. Instead, it gave viewers a surprising comedy moment that anyone could understand within seconds.

Although Rowell did not win America’s Got Talent, his “Tequila” performance became one of the show’s most recognizable funny auditions. It remains a reminder that on a talent show, originality and perfect timing can be just as powerful as a big voice.
